It’s that time of the month again! Cait and Sky are back with another Beautiful Books edition and this month’s questions are all about your NaNoWriMo Novel! If you have never heard of these two lovely ladies, each month they host a blog meme where writers can answer questions about their books, characters, and about themselves! If you’re not participating in NaNoWriMo this year, that’s okay! You can still take the questions and answer them for any of the books you’re writing!
So I suppose this is also my announcement that I will be doing NaNoWriMo for the first time this November. . . and I am honestly so terrified. So many words! So much pressure!
But what will I be writing about? Hehe . . . Not another revision of my current WIP, I promise. Actually, I decided to write up book 2 which I have titled The Throne of Carnet. Working title, of course, but it might grow on me.
This is going to be so hard. I have ideas for book 2 of this series but haven’t outlined anything and I don’t really want to pants my way through.
But anyway, you are here for my answers to the questions below, so here they are!
What inspired the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?
Well, the 1st book inspired it, since the story isn’t quite over. And I have had the idea since I wrote draft 1 of the 1st book, so about a couple of years now.
Describe what your novel is about!
It’s a sequel to my Coran Chronicles series. My MC Alaine is learning how to be a royal, and it doesn’t go necessarily well. She is being forced to take up her family’s throne since they are all dead and she has the only right. But not all the rulers of this world want her to be queen . . . and that’s all I’m saying.
What is your book’s aesthetic? Use words or photos or whatever you like!
Introduce us to each of your characters!
All? Well, *counts on fingers* there’s Alaine, of course, Alaine’s parents Evelyn and James, her brothers Hunter and Charlie, her best friend Matthew, Mikael, his little sister Mia, Mikael’s parents Salamon and Lilith, his manservant Kilian, Sara and Haylen, the regent of Kineallen Anthony Bennet, Fileus, Arkhill the demigod, his brother Aldrich, and as for new-ish characters . . . Queen Rosalin, Josephine Mason, Tristan, Sir Knightly, Sir Wales, and others. Newbies will be introduced very later on.
How do you prepare to write? (Outline, research, stocking up on chocolate, howling, etc.?)
I’m a pantser, who of late has turned to outlining, so I will be writing up a synopsis for the first official draft. I will definitely be eating a lot of chocolate, and crying a lot, so I’ll have tissues within arms reach.
What are you most looking forward to about this novel?
Making my darlings suffer, of course! Things kind of get messed up in the middle and of course, the end cause it’s when *static* …………………………………………………………. *static ends* So, I’m really excited about that.
List 3 things about your novel’s setting.
- My MC Alaine visits a new kingdom she has only heard about.
- The novel mostly takes place in the kingdom of Caledonia.
- A bit of it takes place in the dragon territory of the world … yeah 😀
What’s your character’s goal and who (or what) stands in the way?
At first, Alaine is taking for granted her claim to the throne, but then someone tries to slip in and take her throne away, so she needs to fight to get it back.
How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?
She definitely matures a lot. She’s 17, but by the end, she’s basically acting like a young adult which I’m excited about cause I love stories where characters change over time or grow up. She also realizes that her position in life is far more important than she realized and she starts taking it more seriously.
What are your book’s themes? How do you want readers to feel when the story is over?
Don’t take anything for granted. Humor is good but there are times when one needs to be serious. Always make time for your family and close friends.
Okay, maybe I’m not so terrified anymore, only just a little bit. This will be fun. I just have to keep reminding myself that, cause I’ve heard that writing sequels is hard.
Who’s going to do NaNoWriMo this year and what are you writing about? Good luck to everyone participating in November! For those who aren’t, I hope you continue to make your stories beautiful and wonderful and that you finish them! Have a good rest of the day and week and Happy Early Thanksgiving to all the Canadians out there!
