How Do You Get Back into Reading? Yes, I’m Asking You!

Happy Sunday! Somewhat of a short post today. I am ashamed to say I have been in a reading slump for . . . a few months.

I know! *crawls under a rock and cries bitterly*

I think it started sometime in the spring, and I have barely finished more than a single book then. I’ve beta read other people’s works, been writing, watching, doing school, playing games, and by the end of the day, I find myself not in the mood to read. I bring a book with me wherever I go, but I hardly pull it out.

I absolutely hate it.

So, I need your help! How do you get yourself out of a reading slump? I’ll try anything at this point.

  1. Ugh, I know what you mean. I’ve been in a bit of a slump myself lately. 😦 Generally/lately I just force myself to read…bury myself in a book for an hour or so. Once I’m actually reading I enjoy it. But I’m starting to think I’ve been picking out my books for the wrong reasons–usually because I want to check them off my TBR. Maybe if I start looking for books that sound enjoyable, rather than ones I’ve been meaning to read for forever, I’ll get back into the swing.

    1. Good point! Maybe I should carve out a single hour where my have my nose in a book. My TBR list gets so overwhelming sometimes that I get to a point where I don’t want to read any of the books. Sigh . . . . Oh, I hope I get out of this and I hope you do as well!

  2. I have found I reach that point when I have overcommitted to reading books to review. It sometimes feels more like a job than something I do for pleasure.
I will take a break, find a book that I REALLY want to read, gather all my comfort items, ie coffee, throw, pillow, etc, then settle in for a long read. That’s usually all it takes but not always. I think the key is, it needs to be one you really want to read and not one you feel obligated to read, on a reading challenge, or is on your proverbial TBR list to be crossed off.
Good luck. As a lover of books, I don’t think you’ll stay away for too long!
