Morning everybody! Or good afternoon or good evening, depending on when you’re reading this. Can we please pretend today is Sunday because I usually post something on Sunday and I didn’t yesterday because my day got a bit busy? Please? Pretty please?
Cait and Sky have put up another edition of Beautiful People – a blog meme where anyone can take their questions and answer them about their work or their characters. I look forward to these every month! They’ve been a big help in, well, helping me to learn new things about my characters than I didn’t even know before.
Seriously, I’ve said this before, but I can’t believe it’s June already! Less than two weeks left of school for me. Got three final projects to finish up (only started one of them) . . . The stress has slowly been building up . . . Trying not to cry . . .
But anyway, let’s get right to it because I need to procrastinate! I will not be featuring any of my characters this time. . . they aren’t speaking to me. I think they’ve gone on a strike because I haven’t written anything in the past few weeks. I’ve been busy!
I will be answering these questions about one of my favorite characters Matthew Hart! (Who am I kidding? They’re all my favorite! Love you guys! Please speak to me . . .)
So let’s dive in!
What’s their favorite place they’ve ever visited?
Matthew sometimes, during the summer, travels with his dad Dennis, whose job takes him all over the place. Matthew’s favorite place he’s been to is probably New York City. When his dad is working, Matthew would go off on his own and walk around the city. He especially loves the street performers, typically the musicians because he loves music so much. Central Park is practically paradise. When his dad is off work, they would walk down from their hotel and spend the entire evening enjoying a concert or just walking around, chatting, and enjoying each others company.
What’s one mistake they made that they learned from?
To never take anything for granted.
What was their favourite subject in school? Or favourite thing to learn about?
Band class, of course! But if band wasn’t an option, Matthew really enjoys English.
What’s their favourite flower/growing thing?
Lavenders because they were his mom’s favorite flower, and he really couldn’t stand them when he was younger, but after she passed away, he came to enjoy their beauty and their scent.
Have they ever made someone cry? What happened?
Matthew and Alaine (his best friend and the MC of the story) don’t always get along. Because Matthew is an only child, he’s not used to another child playing with his toys. When he and Alaine were younger, Alaine wanted to play with his toy xylophone, but Matthew didn’t want to share it and ended up hitting Alaine on the head with the plastic mallets. She wasn’t very happy of course and ran to her mom in tears. After a bit of coaxing from his mom, Matthew apologized and let Alaine play with the xylophone, even though her playing was awful.
Would you consider them a reliable or unreliable narrator?
Matthew would be very reliable, but there is only one chapter in the story where its in his perspective. But if for some reason I wanted him to become the MC and change several things in my story, then yes, he would.
What do they dream about at night?
Matthew’s dreams range from reality “what if’s” to completely weird “this makes no sense.” If there is a particular dream he remembers when he wakes up, he’ll tell Alaine about it. And sometimes she tells her dad (who’s a writer – part-time) and he puts that thought away incase a story comes up. Matthew doesn’t mind of course and is very glad he’s able to pass idea’s to Alaine dad.
They’ve gone out for a “special meal.” What would they eat?
Typically, he’d go to an Italian restaurant, either with his dad or Alaine’s family. Matthew always orders the cheese ravioli with marinara sauce and minestrone soup. He cannot get enough of it.
What’s at least one thing they want to do before they die?
Matthew would love to take his saxophone, go to Central Park, and just play to the people walking by all day long. He even knows what outfit he’d be wearing: thin sweater or nice solid color shirt with a vest, shined black shoes, dark brown pants, and a even a fedora or ivy cap.
Do they have any distinguishing or unique talents?
Matthew is pretty good at being able to read people. Not sure if that’s a unique talent, but it definitely helps him to know how to approach someone.
Well, that’s it! Did you enjoy getting to know Matthew Hart more? Wish he was willing to answer them himself . . . (Seriously, guys, I’ll write once school is over! I promise!)
Can’t wait for next month’s Beautiful People/Books 😀 Have a great day, everyone!
