The Test

Very short story this week! 6th grade, 2008. I cringe, but laugh at this. The assignment was to write a short story that started with, “Late one night.” I think I pretty much nailed it! I might’ve corrected several grammatical errors 6th grade version of my self made.

Late one night, I was studying for a test the next day, but then I decided to take a little nap.

When I woke up, I was sitting at my desk in school. I was wondering what was going on, then the teacher came over and laid a piece of paper on my desk. When I looked at it, I realized that it was the test, the one that I only studied for 30 minutes. When I took my pencil and started to write, the test blinked at me. I was shocked. The test was alive! Its words made a face. The eyes were flaming hot red, its nostrils were flaring, and the mouth pulled back its lips and growled showing its letter-like teeth. I started to scream, and then it started to chase me.

The next moment I was running out of the school and into someone’s yard. I hid in the bushes and waited. Then I heard a deep voice and someone was saying, “Come out of there!” So I did and it was the person that lived there, but then that person started to transform into a piece of paper. I knew it was the test. I climbed up a nearby tree, but when I got to the top, it was there. So I went down the tree and started to run out of the yard, but it came right in front of me. My back was against the tree now, I was wondering what it was going to do.

Then it spoke, “Go home and study for me.” After that the test just disappeared. Then I thought what it said, and then I decide to do what it said. So I went home and study for 2 hours, without stopping.

The next day we had the test, and it was easier to finish. And I got an A.

So, the moral of the story is . . . if your test comes to you in a dream, listen to it.
